# Baldi's Basics: get one answer wrong and he speeds up

Baldi's Basics in Education and Learning is a horror parody of cheap 1990s school software. Micah McGonigal made it for a 2018 game jam, and it took off on YouTube. You collect notebooks in a school while Baldi, the teacher, chases you faster after every wrong answer.

## How the chase works

The goal is seven notebooks hidden in classrooms. Each notebook opens a few math questions. The first ones are easy. Then one question turns into nonsense that cannot be answered, and Baldi gets angry and starts walking toward you, slapping his ruler.

Every notebook you pick up after that makes him faster. You hear him before you see him, so sound is your main warning. Once you have all seven, you need to reach an exit while he is at full speed.

The halls have other characters that get in the way, like the Principal who sends you to detention for running, a girl who stops you to jump rope, and a bully who blocks a corridor until you give him an item. Each one is harmless alone, but any delay gives Baldi time to catch up.


## Where to play it

Basically Games, McGonigal's studio, released Baldi's Basics Classic Remastered for free on Steam, itch.io and Game Jolt in October 2022. The bigger follow-up, Baldi's Basics Plus, entered early access in June 2020 with randomly built schools, field trips and more items. Both are made by the original developer.


## Tips for the first run

- **Listen for the ruler**: The slap tells you how close he is and how fast he has become.
- **Walk in the halls**: Running in front of the Principal costs you time in detention.
- **Save the items**: A few pickups can block or slow Baldi when you are cornered.
