The best free mobile games of 2026, with the catch for each

The free games most people installed

On November 3, 2026, the top three free games on the US App Store were Meowdoku!, Block Blast! and Roblox. The rest below are big free games that people keep installing.

• Block Blast! Hungry Studio's block puzzle: drop shapes on a grid and clear lines. Wikipedia lists it as the world's most downloaded game in January 2026. The catch: in-app ads.
• Roblox. Not one game but millions, from obbies to Steal a Brainrot. Free to play. The catch is Robux, which many experiences are built to sell.
• Free Fire Max. Garena's battle royale for up to 52 players, with a 4v4 Clash Squad mode. It runs on modest phones. The catch: a lot of the game is built around skins and passes.
• Meowdoku! Sudoku with cats, and number one on the US free chart in early November. Android Central called it highly addictive but flagged one big problem, so read recent reviews first.
• Magic Sort! A color-sort puzzle that sat near the top of the free iPhone chart in November 2026. Calm, slow and easy to put down.
• Monster Hunter Outlanders. Free since October 29, 2026. Hunt big monsters solo or in co-op groups of four. The catch: it is a live-service game with in-game shops.

How to tell if a free game respects your time

• Read the in-app purchase list. It is on the App Store page. A long list of starter packs and coin bundles tells you where the game is headed.
• Sort reviews by most recent. Ad load and prices often change after launch, so the average rating can be out of date.
• Play two sessions before paying. Many games are generous on day one and slow down on day three.
• Match session length to your day. If you play on breaks, pick games with rounds under five minutes.

One free app to play and make games

Roam is a free iPhone app with a feed of games to play, and you can make your own. CLUTCH is a 1v1 arena duel over five rounds. Block Wars is a 5v5 first-person street shooter. Rush Order is a delivery driving sim, TALLOW is a first-person horror escape, Pogo Up is a physics pogo climber and PIXELVALE is a top-down action RPG. If nothing fits, describe the game you wanted and play that instead.
