Block Blast: how to score big and keep the board clear
Block Blast! is a free block puzzle from Hungry Studio for iPhone and Android. You drop shapes onto an 8x8 board, and full rows or columns clear. It was the most downloaded mobile game in the world in 2025 and was still near the top of the charts through 2026.
The rules in one minute
You get three pieces at a time. Place all three anywhere on the board, then you get three more. Pieces cannot be rotated. When a row or column is full, it clears and you score. The game ends when none of your current pieces fit.
There is a classic endless mode and an adventure mode with set goals. Both use the same 8x8 board and the same rules.
How scoring and combos work
Clearing one line scores. Clearing two or more lines with one piece scores more. Clearing lines on back-to-back placements starts a combo, and the multiplier keeps growing as long as each move clears something. A single big multi-line clear in the middle of a combo is where the high scores come from.
Clearing the whole board gives a bonus too, but chasing it is risky. Most good runs come from steady combos, not perfect clears.
Tips for longer runs
- Keep a 3x3 hole open. The big square piece ends more runs than anything else. Always leave room for it.
- Fill the edges first. Pieces along the walls leave the middle flexible for awkward shapes.
- Plan all three pieces. Before you place the first, check that the other two will still fit.
- Build for double clears. Line up two nearly full rows so one long bar clears both.
- Do not chase every combo. Breaking a combo to save the board is better than ending the run.
