# Geometry Dash online: jump to the beat

Source: https://roam.new/geometry-dash/

Geometry Dash is a rhythm platformer by RobTop Games, the studio of Swedish developer Robert Topala. It came out on iPhone and Android on August 13, 2013, and on Steam in December 2014. You tap to jump in time with the music, and one hit sends you back to the start.

Where to play the original: [Geometry Dash on Steam](https://store.steampowered.com/app/322170/).

## Official ways to play

Most player levels, the online search and the level editor are part of the full game. Many websites use the Geometry Dash name for copies, so check that the game you get is from RobTop.

- **Geometry Dash**: The full paid game on iPhone, Android and Steam, with the level editor and a huge library of player-made levels online.
- **Geometry Dash Lite**: A free version on phones with ads and a smaller set of levels.
- **Spin-offs**: Geometry Dash Meltdown, World and SubZero, smaller games with their own short levels.

## How it plays

Your icon moves forward on its own. You only control when to jump or fly. Spikes, saws and walls are timed to the song, so the music tells you when to tap. Levels are short, but there is no checkpoint in normal mode, which is why one level can take hundreds of tries.

Portals change your game mode in the middle of a level.

- **Cube**: Tap to jump.
- **Ship**: Hold to fly up, let go to fall.
- **Ball and Spider**: Tap to flip gravity.
- **UFO**: Tap for small hops in the air.
- **Wave**: Hold to go up at an angle, let go to go down.
- **Robot and Swing**: Hold for a higher jump, or swing between floor and ceiling.

## Tips

- **Use practice mode**: It adds checkpoints so you can learn a hard part.
- **Play with sound on**: The timing is written into the music.
- **Do not grind one level**: Switching levels for a while often fixes your timing.

## A rhythm runner on Roam

Play the Ceiling is a rhythm driving game on Roam where you drive the music and the road goes up the walls. Punch the Drop is a rhythm auto-runner on a boardwalk where you hit every beat. They are Roam games, not Geometry Dash.

## Make your own rhythm level with Roam

Roam is a free iPhone app where you describe a game and play it. Pick the song style, the obstacles and the speed, then ask for a harder part. Roam is rated 13+ on the App Store.

Try: "rhythm runner in a neon tunnel, tap to jump on the beat, a portal turns me into a paper plane, 3 levels, my friend is the boss at the end"
