# Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hornet's long climb

Hollow Knight: Silksong is a 2D action platformer by Team Cherry, the small Australian studio behind Hollow Knight. It came out on September 4, 2025, after years of waiting, at a price of $19.99. You play as Hornet, who is captured and taken to a new kingdom called Pharloom, and you fight and climb your way to the top.

## Where to play it

Silksong launched on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on the same day. It is not on phones. On Steam it peaked above 500,000 players at once on its first day.


## How it differs from Hollow Knight

Hornet moves more acrobatically than the Knight from the first game. She dashes, clings to walls, leaps upward and fights with a needle and thread. Healing uses silk, which you build up by hitting enemies, and one heal restores three masks at once, so you heal in quick bursts during a fight.

The map is a large, connected world where new abilities open old paths. Pharloom rises upward, from mossy caves to a citadel at the top. Along the way there are towns, quests from the people who live there, and tools Hornet can craft and equip, like throwing weapons and traps.

Bosses are a big part of it, with over 40 of them. Critics generally found it harder than the first game, with higher enemy damage and long runs back to bosses.


## Tips for the first hours

- **Heal early**: Silk healing takes a moment, so use it in gaps, not at the last second.
- **Buy the maps**: A mapmaker sells maps of the areas. Finding her saves a lot of wandering.
- **Try every tool**: A tool that looks minor can turn a boss fight around.
