# The needle in a haystack game, explained

Source: https://roam.new/needle-in-a-haystack-game/

The viral needle in a haystack game is Needle In A Haystack Simulator, a Steam game from developer Nas Nakarus and Studio Bitdot. You pull hay away piece by piece to find one needle hidden in 5 million straws. It went viral in August 2026, and a wave of copies on Steam and Roblox followed within days.

## The original game

Nas Nakarus posted a clip of the game in late August 2026 and admitted he had never found the needle himself. The clip spread fast. The Steam store page went up soon after, a playtest drew more than 23,000 sign-ups, and the full release is planned for later in 2026.

The idea is simple on purpose. There is one needle, a huge pile of hay and a physics engine. Every straw you move can bury the needle deeper or show you a glint of metal. The joke is the scale, and the fun is the moment you finally spot it.

## The clones, and how to tell them apart

Roblox creators made around 14 copies within 48 hours of the reveal, and roughly ten lookalike games showed up in Steam search. PC Gamer called it haystack slop. If you want the original, search Steam for Needle In A Haystack Simulator and check that the developer is Studio Bitdot.

On Roblox, the best known version was [THE HOLLOW] Search For The Needle by Garage Games, part of Roblox's Halloween event The Hollow. Players dig for candles, summon a boss and earn a badge. It is a separate game, not the Steam original.

- **Needle In A Haystack Simulator (Steam)**: The original. One needle, 5 million pieces of hay, release planned for late 2026.
- **A Needle In A Haystack: Sorting Game (Steam)**: A copy from another studio that turns the search into sorting.
- **Search For The Needle (Roblox)**: The Hollow event game by Garage Games, with a candle hunt and a boss.

## Search games on Roam that scratch the same itch

Sift Happens is a physics haystack search: one needle, thousands of straws and ninety seconds on the clock. The timer turns the joke into a real race. Tiny Crowd: Spot the Person is the people version, where you look for three faces in a beach crowd of hundreds.

Want your own spin? Swap the needle for something personal, like your friend's lost AirPod in a mountain of laundry, and race your friends to find it first.
