Free games are never quite free, but some are fair about it. These launched in 2026, and each comes with a plain note on how it makes money, so you know before you download whether it sells skins, characters or a full unlock. Free-to-play status here is as of November 3, 2026.

## New free games worth installing

- **Monster Hunter Outlanders (October 29, iOS and Android)**: TiMi Studio Group's mobile Monster Hunter, made under licence from Capcom. Hunt big monsters solo or in co-op for up to four. Announced as free-to-play.
- **2XKO (January, PC, Xbox, PlayStation)**: Riot Games' free 2v2 tag fighting game with League of Legends characters. It earns from cosmetics and a battle pass.
- **Arknights: Endfield (January 22, PS5, PC, iOS, Android)**: A 3D RPG from Hypergryph, published worldwide by Gryphline. It is a gacha game: characters come from random pulls, and there is a paid battle pass.
- **Neverness to Everness (April 29, PC, PS5, iOS, Android)**: Hotta Studio's open-world action RPG where you switch between a team of four. Free to start, with paid extras.
- **Escape Up (February 23, Steam)**: A small free 2D platformer shooter: clear every monster in a room to climb the tower, and spend kill cash on upgrades.

## How free games make money

Knowing the model tells you what the game will push at you.

- **Ads**: Common in puzzle and casual phone games. Check the reviews: the most common complaint is an ad after almost every level.
- **Gacha**: You pull for random characters. Fun if you never spend, risky if you chase one hero.
- **Battle pass and skins**: The fairest kind for most players. Paying changes looks, not power.
- **Free to try, pay once**: No Man's Sky came to iPhone on October 28 this way: the opening is free, then one $19.99 in-app unlock for the full game.

## Free games on Roam
