# Practical Basketball: the skill-heavy hoops game on Roblox

Practical Basketball is a Roblox basketball game by the group Practical's Games, first published in April 2025. It aims for realistic movement, ball physics and timing, and it has run as a series of public stress tests rather than a finished release. In late 2026 it is part of a wave of simple sports games climbing Roblox's charts.

## How it plays

You play a position, Guard, Forward or Center, in a match on a court. Every shot uses a timing meter: release near the green part and the shot is most likely to go in. Open shots are more forgiving than contested ones, so passing to an open teammate often beats forcing a shot. Matches are against real players, so spacing and defense matter as much as your own shooting.

From the menu you can join a random public lobby or create a private one to play with friends. Players also build their character around a style of play, such as a sharpshooter build.


## Basic PC controls

Guides note that bindings can change between test builds, so check the in-game controls menu. Controller layouts exist for Xbox and PlayStation.

- **Shoot**: Hold E and release on the meter.
- **Layup**: Move toward the rim and press E.
- **Dunk**: Sprint with Shift near the rim, hold Space, release in the green.
- **Pass**: Press 1. Variations add bounce, lob and fake passes.
- **Defense**: Hold G to guard, R to steal, Shift and Space to block.
- **Dribble moves**: C or Z for a crossover, with combo moves on other keys.

## Tips and status

- **Learn layups first**: They are the most reliable way to score while you learn the meter.
- **Sprint for dunks**: The dunk animation needs a running start.
- **Check the game page**: Stress tests open and close, so the Roblox page and the group's Discord show whether a test is live.

## Basketball on Roam
