# The Exit 8: rules, tips and anomaly games

The Exit 8 is a short walking game by KOTAKE CREATE, released in 2023. You walk a looping underground passage in Japan. If nothing has changed, keep going. If you spot an anomaly, turn back. Get it right eight times and you reach Exit 8.

## The rules of the loop

- **Nothing changed**: Walk forward. The sign counts you one step closer.
- **Something changed**: Turn around and walk back. That also counts as correct.
- **Wrong call**: Miss an anomaly, or turn back for nothing, and the count resets to zero.
- **The goal**: Eight correct passages in a row take you to Exit 8.

## Where to play The Exit 8

Sales passed three million copies by September 2026.

- **PC**: First out on Steam in November 2023.
- **Consoles**: Switch in April 2024, PS4 and PS5 in August 2024, Xbox Series X|S in January 2025, and a Switch 2 edition in August 2025.
- **Phones**: iPhone and Android since March 2025, as a paid app.

## How to spot anomalies

Learn the normal corridor on your first walk. The posters, the doors, the lights, the man walking toward you. Anomalies range from obvious, like water flooding in, to tiny, like a poster with a changed face or a light that is out.

Walk slowly and scan in the same order every time: ceiling, left wall, right wall, floor, the man. Most resets come from rushing.

Both kinds of mistake reset the count, so do not guess. If something bothers you, stop and look again before you choose.


## The sequel, the film and similar games

KOTAKE CREATE followed it with Platform 8 in 2024, set on a train that never ends. A live-action film from Toho premiered at Cannes in 2025 and opened in North American cinemas on April 10, 2026 through NEON.
