Apex Legends online: free platforms, and no iPhone version
Apex Legends is a free battle royale for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2. There is no phone version: Apex Legends Mobile shut down in May 2023. On an iPhone, Roam has two free squad battle royales you can play with friends, and you can make your own.

Where to play Apex Legends
Apex Legends is made by Respawn Entertainment and published by EA. It launched in February 2019 and is free to play, paid for by cosmetics and battle passes. It runs on PC through Steam and the EA app, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2, which got its own version in August 2025. Respawn ended the original Switch version after Season 29, in August 2026.
The main mode drops squads of three onto the map. Each player picks a legend with their own abilities, like a scan, a shield or a grapple. You loot, fight, ping things for your team and stay inside the ring until one squad is left. Cross-play lets friends on different systems queue together.
Apex Legends Mobile was a separate phone version. It launched in May 2022, and EA and Respawn closed it on May 1, 2023. There is no official way to play Apex on an iPhone today.
Free squad battle royales on Roam
What is the same: squads drop in, fight over a shrinking space, and one team wins. What is different: these play from a top-down view, they do not have Apex's legends, and they are not connected to EA or Respawn.
- Last Squad Standing. A top-down squad battle royale: your squad, their squads, one field. The closest fit if you play Apex as a trio.
- Block Royale. A top-down battle royale where 24 drop in and one walks out. Good for a quick round between real matches.
Make your own Apex-style game
The part of Apex people miss on a phone is the legends. You can make that on Roam: describe the squad, the abilities and the map in a sentence, and it comes back playable. Then change it by talking, like "give the medic a bigger heal" or "add a jump tower".
Give each friend a role, so a squad of three feels like a team. Keep the ring shrinking so every round ends in a fight. Friends join from the app and play in your squad.
