Where to play Modern Warfare 4
Modern Warfare 4 is made by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. It is on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2. It skips PS4 and Xbox One. The standard edition is $69.99, and unlike some recent Call of Duty games it did not launch on Game Pass.
The campaign starts on the Korean Peninsula, where a North Korean invasion of the South pushes the region into open war, and it also moves through cities like New York and Paris. Multiplayer is back with classic modes, and DMZ, the extraction mode from Modern Warfare II, returns as a full third mode in the game. Online play on consoles needs the platform's paid online plan.
On a phone, the Call of Duty you can get is Call of Duty: Mobile, a separate free game from Activision. It is not Modern Warfare 4 and does not share progress with it.
Free shooters like Modern Warfare 4 on Roam
Roam is a free iPhone app with games people made and games you can make. These two share the fast first-person gunfights. They are small phone games, not Call of Duty, with no campaign, no DMZ and no connection to Activision.
- Block Wars. A 5v5 first-person street shooter: hold the block, chain kills, call in the ride-by. The killstreak feel is the closest match.
- CLUTCH. A 1v1 arena duel over five rounds. A tight 1v1 warm-up, where the win often comes on your last 20 HP.
Make your own Modern Warfare-style game
On Roam you describe the game in a sentence and it comes back playable, with a world, art, characters, sound and rules. Then you change it by talking: "more enemies", "make it two-player". Keep the parts that make Call of Duty work and drop the rest.
- Short respawn fights. Small maps, quick respawns, nobody waits long to get back in.
- Killstreaks. Three kills calls in something big. It is the reward that keeps people playing.
- Loadouts. Pick a rifle, an SMG or a sniper before the match. Small choices, big arguments.
- A squad. Friends join from the app and play on your team, or the other one.
