Drive Mad: get the car to the finish without flipping
Drive Mad is a physics driving game from Fancade, the mini-game platform made by Swedish developer Martin Magni, who is also known for Mekorama. Each level is a short course of ramps, bridges and wobbly parts, and you only have gas and brake. Reach the finish flag without landing on your roof.
How Drive Mad plays
There is no steering. Gas moves you forward and brake slows you or pulls you back, and that is the whole control scheme. On a phone you tap the right side of the screen to accelerate and the left side to brake.
The challenge is weight and balance. Each level hands you a vehicle and a course, and the way the car tips, bounces and lands decides how you have to drive it. Later levels add magnets and low or zero gravity, so the same two buttons keep asking new questions.
Levels are short, so a flip costs you seconds. That is why it works on a phone: one more try is always one tap away, and each attempt teaches you something about the car.
Where to play it
- Web game sites. Drive Mad is on Poki and other web portals, credited to Fancade.
- The Fancade app. Fancade is free on iOS and Android, and Drive Mad is one of its best-known games.
- Standalone app. There is also a separate Drive Mad listing on Apple's App Store.
Tips for the hard levels
- Go slow first. Crawl through once to see which parts move before you try for speed.
- Back up for a run-up. Some ramps need momentum. Reverse, then go.
- Ease off before the top. Too much gas on a crest flips the car. Let it roll over.
- Land on the wheels. Most failures are bad landings, so line up the jump before you hit the ramp.
