Level Devil: the platformer that moves the floor on you
Level Devil is a troll platformer by Unept, the name solo developer Adam Corey goes by. The goal is simple, reach the door, but the level fights back: floors drop away, spikes slide out and the exit runs off. It came out on Poki in late 2023, then on iOS and Android, and on Steam in March 2025.
Why it is mean, and why that is fun
Every level looks easy for about a second. Then the block you trusted falls, the ceiling drops, or a spike appears exactly where you were about to land. You die, you laugh, and you try again knowing one more trick.
Levels are short and restarts are instant, so a death costs a few seconds, not a minute. The game started as a joke to troll Corey's friends, and that sense of humor is in every trap. Critics liked it too: the PC version holds a Metascore of 83.
Tips for surviving the traps
- Walk the first pass. Move slowly the first time and watch what reacts to you.
- Distrust the obvious path. If a jump looks too easy, something is waiting on the other side.
- Watch the landing spot. Spikes often pop out right where you were going to land.
- Use memory. Traps fire the same way each time, so every death teaches you the level.
- Bring a friend. There is a 2-player mode: five rounds against someone on the same screen.
Troll level ideas with a twist
The fun of Level Devil is the surprise. A homemade troll level works best when the trap is personal.
- Your friend is the devil. The level taunts you in their voice every time you die.
- Your room as the level. The bed collapses, the door runs away, the desk turns into spikes.
- Fake checkpoint. The flag that should save you is the trap.
