Fireboy and Watergirl: two players, two elements, one exit
Fireboy and Watergirl is a co-op puzzle platformer series by Oslo Albet. The first game, The Forest Temple, came out as a free Flash game in 2009. Two players share one screen: Fireboy must stay out of water, Watergirl must stay out of fire, and both have to reach the exit.
The rules
Each level is a temple full of pools, ramps, buttons and moving platforms. Fireboy can walk through red lava but dies in blue water. Watergirl is the reverse. Green goo kills both of them. Red gems are only for Fireboy and blue gems only for Watergirl.
The level ends when both characters stand at their own doors. Most puzzles need teamwork: one player holds a button or a lever so a platform stays up while the other crosses. On one keyboard, one person uses the arrow keys and the other uses W, A and D. You can also play alone by controlling both, which is much harder.
The games in the series
- The Forest Temple (2009). The original, with 32 levels.
- The Light Temple (2010). Adds light beams and mirrors to aim.
- The Ice Temple (2012). Ice changes how the floor and the pools behave.
- The Crystal Temple (2014). Adds portals to the puzzles.
- Elements (2018) and Fairy Tales (2021). Newer games for phones and Steam.
- Fireboy & Watergirl and Friends (2026). The latest game, on Google Play and Steam.
Where to play
The first four games were rebuilt for the web after Flash ended and are on web game sites. They were also re-released on Steam in September 2026. Elements and Fairy Tales are on the app stores. Later games add new elements and characters, but the core rule stays the same: each hero has one thing that kills them.
