How to make a game in Fortnite, on console, PC or phone
You make a game in Fortnite by building an island in Fortnite Creative, the free build mode inside the game. Epic says Creative works on console, PC and mobile. Code, your own assets and AI agents need UEFN, a free editor that runs only on Windows PCs. Publishing is for adults: you must be 18 or older.
Where to play the original: Fortnite on the App Store. Roam is not affiliated with it.

Fortnite Creative, step by step
These steps follow Epic's own Creative guides.
- 1. Open Creative. In the lobby, scroll down to Discover, pick Create, then the Creative tile, and press Play.
- 2. Start an island. In your hub, walk to your golden rift and open the console. Pick a starter island, which has fixed terrain and a theme, or a template island that already holds devices to learn from.
- 3. Build with the phone tool. The phone tool moves, copies and edits props. Prefabs and galleries in the Content menu give you ready buildings and parts.
- 4. Add devices. Devices are the rules of your game: timers, triggers, score, spawn pads, item granters. You set them up in their options, with no code.
- 5. Playtest. Start a game on your island and play it. Fix what breaks, then test again.
- 6. Publish. Join the Fortnite Developer Program, then publish through Epic's Creator Portal. Players find your island in Discover or by its island code.
Can you make a Fortnite map on mobile?
Yes, in Creative. Epic's developer page says Creative lets you build directly in Fortnite on console, PC or mobile. Fortnite is free on the US App Store for iPhone and iPad, and on Google Play in the US.
A small screen makes exact placing slow, so start small: one arena, one short deathrun, one tycoon room. Grow it once the loop is fun.
UEFN does not run on phones or tablets. It is a Windows app. Its Mobile Preview lets PC creators test touch controls the way phone players see them, which helps if most of your players are on phones.

Creative or UEFN: which one to use
- Fortnite Creative. Inside the game, nothing extra to install, no code. You build with props, prefabs and devices on any device that runs Fortnite.
- UEFN. Free from the Epic Games Store for Windows. It adds Unreal Engine tools, Verse code and your own assets. Since August 2026 it has Unreal MCP, so agents like Claude Code, Codex or Cursor can write Verse, place devices and run play sessions with you.
- Publishing rules. Both need the Fortnite Developer Program. You must be 18 or older and have made a real-money purchase through Epic Payments, or spent at least $20 in Fortnite, in the last 365 days. Payouts are based on player engagement with your island.
Make a game on your iPhone with Roam
Roam is a separate iPhone app, not part of Fortnite or Epic. Describe a game in a sentence, or start from a photo of your dog, and it comes back playable with a world, art, characters, sound and rules. Change it by talking: "smaller zone", "make it two-player". Play solo or with friends.
Roam games are played in Roam, not in Fortnite, and they have no island code. Roam is free to download and play, and making games works without a subscription. Optional Spark and Reality plans and credit packs add more creation. Android is pre-register only on Google Play. Roam is rated 13+ on the App Store.
