How to make a Roblox game

Every Roblox game is made in Roblox Studio, a free app for Windows and macOS. You place Parts to build the world, add scripts in Luau to make things happen, then publish to Roblox. Here is the whole path, and what to do without a computer.

What you need

A computer. Windows or macOS. Studio does not run on phones, iPads or Chromebooks.
A Roblox account. The same one you play with. Studio is free to download from Roblox's creator site.
Time to learn Luau. Building is drag and drop, but doors, coins and kill bricks need short scripts.

Roblox Studio, step by step

1. Install and sign in. Download Studio from Roblox's create site and log in with your account.
2. Pick a template. Baseplate is an empty world. Genre templates like Obby or Racing give you a working start.
3. Place Parts. Insert blocks, spheres and wedges. Move, scale and rotate them, and set Anchored so they stay put.
4. Add scripts. Put a Script in a Part or in ServerScriptService. Start small: a part that resets players on touch, a coin that adds score.
5. Playtest. Press Play to test as a player. Fix what breaks.
6. Publish. File, then Publish to Roblox. Set the experience to public in its settings when you want others to find it.

First-game tips

Start from a template and change one thing a day. Copy-pasting large free models is tempting, but they can carry scripts you do not understand, so check what is inside before you keep them.

Pick a genre that already works on Roblox: obby, tycoon, horror escape. Invite two friends to playtest before you post it anywhere.

If you only have a phone

Roblox Build, announced in July 2026, is a prompt-to-game tab in the Roblox mobile app. Its public alpha began in New Zealand, needs an age check (accounts 9+) and has a daily AI allowance.

Another option is Roam, a free iPhone app where you describe an obby, a horror map or a bed battle and play it with friends. It is played in Roam, not on Roblox.
