What kind of game it is
S-GAME calls its style kungfupunk: wuxia sword fighting mixed with dark, industrial fantasy. You play Soul, an assassin of a group called the Order who is framed for murdering its patriarch and has 66 days left to live.
Combat is fast and close. You chain sword moves, switch weapons and parry to counter, and bosses test whether you read their attacks. It is hard, but director Soulframe Liang has said it is neither a Souls-like nor a traditional action game.
The setting, the Phantom World, mixes old Chinese martial arts with a darker, gritty fantasy. Fights lean on style as well as survival: long combos, fast weapon switches and finishers that look like a kung fu film.
Where it comes from
Phantom Blade Zero grew out of Rainblood, a series of 2D action games by S-GAME's founder Soulframe Liang, and the later game Phantom Blade: Executioners. You do not need to know those games to start this one.
The world is semi-open: large handcrafted regions that connect, some locked until later weapons open the way, not one huge open world.
Platforms and launch
- Release date. October 29, 2026. It was first set for September 9 and moved.
- Platforms and price. PlayStation 5 and PC, on Steam and the Epic Games Store. $59.99, or $69.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition. A boxed PS5 version is planned for 2027.
- Launch numbers. Over 720,000 concurrent players on Steam on day one, one of the biggest launches on the store.
- Phones. There is no mobile version.

If you want the parry and slash feeling on your phone, Roam has a few blade games. They are small and separate, not versions of Phantom Blade Zero.
