Hay Day: grow it, make it, sell it
Hay Day is a farming game by Supercell, the Finnish studio behind Clash of Clans. It was Supercell's first mobile game, released on iPhone in June 2012 and on Android in November 2013. You grow crops, raise animals, turn them into goods and sell those goods to grow your farm.
How the farm loop works
Everything in Hay Day feeds into something else. Wheat feeds the chickens, eggs and wheat become bread in the bakery, and bread fills an order. Each step takes real time, from a couple of minutes for wheat to hours for some goods, so you plan around what is ready when you come back. New crops, animals and buildings unlock as you level up, so early sessions are short and later ones get longer.
- Crops. Plant, wait, harvest. Crops go into the silo.
- Animals. Feed chickens, cows, pigs and more to get eggs, milk and bacon.
- Production buildings. Bakery, dairy, sugar mill and others turn raw goods into products, stored in the barn.
- Coins and diamonds. Coins buy buildings and animals. Diamonds, the premium currency, speed things up.
Ways to sell
Since 2014 you can also join a neighborhood with other players and take part in weekly derbies, where the team completes tasks together.
- Truck orders. A board of orders that pay coins and experience.
- Boat orders. Bigger crate orders with a deadline and better rewards.
- Town visitors. Visitors who pay for specific goods.
- Roadside shop. Set your own prices and sell to other players, or buy from their shops.
Tips for new farmers
- Always keep wheat growing. It is fast and almost everything needs it.
- Start long jobs before bed. Put slow goods in production before you close the game.
- Do not oversell crops. Keep enough to feed animals and replant.
- Upgrade storage early. A full barn blocks every production building.
