Phasmophobia: find the evidence, name the ghost, get out

Phasmophobia is a co-op ghost-hunting horror game by the UK studio Kinetic Games. It entered early access on Steam on September 18, 2020 and reached PS5, PS VR2 and Xbox Series X|S in October 2024. Up to four players enter a haunted building with equipment, collect evidence and work out which kind of ghost lives there.

How a contract works

Your team arrives in a van full of gear. You set up cameras, sensors and lights, then walk inside to find the ghost's room. Each ghost type leaves three kinds of evidence, out of seven in total. Find all three, mark them in your journal, and you know what you are dealing with.

The ghost reacts to you. It can talk through a spirit box, turn off lights and throw things. As your sanity drops, it starts hunts: the exit locks and it chases anyone it can find. Hiding and staying quiet are your only defense. Finish the objectives, get out and get paid. Higher difficulties give less setup time and less help, which makes knowing the evidence types by heart even more useful.

The seven evidence types

EMF Level 5. The EMF reader spikes to its highest level.
Spirit Box. The ghost answers your questions through the radio.
Ultraviolet. Fingerprints or footprints glow under UV light.
Ghost Orb. Floating lights show up on a video camera.
Ghost Writing. The ghost writes in a book you leave out.
Freezing Temperatures. A thermometer reads below zero in the ghost's room.
D.O.T.S. Projector. A green laser grid shows a figure moving through it.

Still in early access

Phasmophobia is still in early access and gets large updates. Kinetic Games has moved the 1.0 release, and a Nintendo Switch 2 version, to the second half of 2027.
